A te t'ha mandato Beuys... / Beuys sent you here...
La «Difesa della natura» di Joseph Beuys è un'opera d'amore e di amicizia che continua a vivere nella bella terra d'Abruzzo, a Bolognano. Coinvolge l'intero paese, le case, le strade, gli alberi, le opere degli artisti che sono passati di lì. Un tempo ci sono stati signori del luogo, signore, braccianti, artigiani, dottori, preti, ma se ne sono andati in tanti per non ritornare. Oggi gli abitanti non arrivano a cento. E' "Il nonluogo", abbandonato eppure non desolato. Forse la sua strana bellezza è la risposta all'orrore del consumo e il suo silenzio il ponte fatto saltare per renderlo inaccessibile. «Il nonluogo» di Bolognano al contrario del non-lieu di Marc Augé, è la radicale negazione di ogni “luogo” divenuto spazio impersonale, alienato e alienante, luogo di transito e di consumo, che non ha più connotazione culturale né radice né storia. Quel che vedi qui, oggetti, opere, documenti, sono tracce di storie, doni scambiati tra persone, affetti, utopie. Non possono stare in un supermercato, in una banca, in un aeroporto. Non possono neanche stare in un museo. Hanno bisogno di parole e di sguardi, di gesti, di invenzioni: chiedono partecipazione. Il nonluogo è la civiltà, la storia, l’umanità felice che non c’è ancora.

The "Defense of Nature" by Joseph Beuys is a work of love and friendship that lives on in the beautiful land of Abruzzo, in Bolognano. It involves the whole country, the houses, the streets, the trees, the works of the artists who have passed through there. Once upon a time there were local lords, ladies, labourers, craftsmen, doctors, priests, but many of them left never to return. Today the inhabitants do not reach one hundred. It is "Il nonluogo" (The noplace), abandoned, yet not desolate. Perhaps its strange beauty is the answer to the horror of consumption and its silence the bridge blown up to make it inaccessible. Bolognano’s «Il nonluogo», as opposed to Marc Augé’s non-lieu, is the radical negation of every “place” that has become impersonal, alienated and alienating space, a place of transit and consumption, which no longer has cultural connotations, roots or history. What you see here, objects, works, documents, are traces of stories, gifts exchanged between people, affections, utopias. They cannot be in a supermarket, a bank, an airport. They can’t even be in a museum. They need words and looks, gestures, inventions: they ask for participation. «Il nonluogo» is civilization, history, the happy humanity still not existing.
